Buccaneers running back Doug Martin remains in the concussion protocol and there is no firm timetable for his return according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times.

Martin missed the team’s road game against the Green Bay Packers in Week 13 and the team seems in no hurry to put him back on the field, especially in light of the huge game Peyton Barber produced in his absence. More may be known when the Bucs return to practice on Wednesday.

Martin, originally the No.31-overall pick in the 2012 draft out of Boise State, has had a frustrating season since returning from serving the final three games of his PED suspension. In eight games he has produced only 376 rushing yards for a 3.2 yards per carry average and two touchdowns. With the Bucs out of the playoff picture, the team will likely want to take an extended look at Barber to see if he can replace the now 28-year-old Martin on a more permanent basis.
