Don’t Let The Door Hit You On The Way Out

At the 11th hour of the trade deadline, the Bucs traded Aqib Talib to New England. Talib was a troubled player who is one Adderall pill away from a year-long suspension, so even though we don’t know what the Patriots gave up to get him, I’m going to guess it was somewhere between a donkey and a seventh-round pick. Maybe two donkeys.

But seriously, good. The Bucs’ secondary is a weak spot right now (which is strange to say since the Bucs started with season with about 50 DBs) and Talib was having a pretty strong season up until his suspension. But Talib was a loose cannon in a couple different ways and character counts for something. If Greg Schiano was going to have any credibility that his “Buc way” included discipline accountability, he couldn’t have a guy like Talib around. I was surprised when he said they’d welcome Talib back after his suspension, and it turns out that wasn’t the case. This is the year to do it and start getting young players like Leonard Johnson a ton of reps so he can take over next year when expectations are higher. I think this is a great move.

(No time to add a banner pic just right now — I’ll do it later tonight.)
