Aqib Talib Bought Way Out Of A Jam

In totally shocking news that will totally shock you, cab driver David Duggan reached a deal with Aqib Talib, the man who punched him while Duggan was driving Talib and a couple other Buccaneers home from a club.
Though Duggan said he can’t disclose the amount, it sounds sizable, “Put it this way, if I play it smart, I’ll be set,” he said.
And in the same article…
Duggan, a 48-year-old St. Petersburg resident, said he hasn’t worked since the incident, and still has a bulging disk and herniated disk, with medical expenses around $10,000.
But Duggan said, with his settlement money, he plans to start his own carpet cleaning business. He’s also going to Hawaii for the New Year, hopes to buy a house, among other things.
“I’m going to get a new iPhone,” he said. “I’ve always wanted one.”
Because nothing screams financial responsibility for the newly-disabled like a trip to Hawaii and an iPhone. Ahh, well, at least he’ll have a good time with the money.
Duggan said he still hasn’t spoken with Talib, and the Bucs haven’t contacted him.
That seems weird to me, but I guess it’s standard operating procedure when you’re being sued or prosecuted. Talib can’t call Duggan without admitting something, and that tends to be damaging to your position of “not guilty”. Maybe he could just text him on his new iPhone. “yo roo, we str8?”
“I feel for him, that he made a big mistake and that kind of thing, but I have no animosity towards him,” Duggan said. “I feel he paid his debt to me and society and the man is really sorry and he showed that in the civil matter. I just want to put this behind me and hope he has a better football career and not make another mistake.”
“He showed he’s sorry by paying me more money than I’ve ever seen.” I can’t be the only one weirded out by this. I know it’s the way the world works, but I don’t think I could bring myself to be that kind even with the money if there was no apology from Talib. I’d have to stick with “It’s been resolved” or some benign shit like that, but I’d be damned if I’d wish him a good career. Or I’d just be seen everywhere wearing a Steve Smith or Marques Colston jersey.
Talib’s criminal case is still pending, but Duggan will recommend that he only enter an intervention program which would likely include anger management classes and community service. Anyway, good luck to Duggan and his carpet cleaning business.
