Leftwich Pick Was Safe, Gutless

Truth be known, I was rooting for Luke McCown.

There was something about McCown that intrigued me for a long time. When I step out of my “fan zone” and think about why I was rooting for McCown, I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I just feel like the Bucs are due to have the “quarterback from nowhere” step in and be a savior. I look at the Patriots with Tom Brady, the Cowboys with Tony Romo, and the Rams with Kurt Warner and I’m thinking that the Law of Averages says that the Bucs in 30-plus years have to have someone buried on their depth chart that can play quarterback at a better-than-average level.

Raheem Morris reacts to Dexter Jackson’s release

Coach Raheem Morris stopped short of calling Dexter Jackson a bust despite the team's decision today to cut its 2008 second-round pick. Morris attributed the move to Jackson being what Morris described as a poor fit for the Tampa Bay offense.

Dexter Jackson Released

Last years second round draft pick Dexter Jackson has been released from the Bucs, according to the Tampa Tribune.

Tampa Bay has reached the 75-man roster limit early Monday morning by releasing the punt returner/wide receiver. The end of Jackson’s career with the Bucs is not surprising. After being drafted in the second round of the 2008 draft to be the return man on kicks and punts, he did not live up to his expectations.

Tampa Bay Bucs practice update — WR Clayton excited to return to practice

Wide receiver Michael Clayton told reporters Monday that it feels good to be back at practice, after aggravating a hamstring strain at Jacksonville two weeks ago and sitting out the Miami game last Thursday.

Does a shorter preseason means less injuries?

Preseason is here.  Football is back.   After months of waiting and some serious down time, things are starting to pick back up.  Training camp is in full swing, the first game has been played, now it's time to get everyone else under the lights and get the season going.  The first preseason game usually features starters for a short period of time, followed by the bench squad.  As the preseason moves along and teams get more games under their belts, the starters play more time, usually culminating in about a half of play in the 3rd game.  With more game time comes increased reps and a chance to smooth out the kinks in an offense or defense. But with more live action, there's also more of a chance for injury.
