Jackson Is On A Short Leash

According to the Times, Clifton Smith has been promoted from the practice squad to the active roster. The move makes sense not only because Warrick Dunn is still questionable for the game tomorrow but because Smith showed some nice kick return abilities in camp. If Dunn can’t go, the team might be a little more careful with Smith and give Dexter Jackson a shot or two at returning a kick. But if he takes a dive or so much as holds the ball weird, they’re going to pull him and let Smith go. And if Dunn is active, he might not even get that.
Michael Bennett got some reps at returns in practice this week, but I guess Smith’s promotion is an indication that he didn’t perform as well as Smtih.
No word yet on who will get cut, but I’m guessing it will be James Lee. Or if Joey Galloway is somehow able to get his bones to knit and get on the field, they may waive Brian Clark and try to re-sign him to the practice squad.
