Joey Galloway Lost His Job To Antonio Bryant

One of the more effective methods of discouraging this kind of behavior from your defensive back is to hit him in the nose with a rolled-up newspaper.
One thing I noticed in the Buccaneers.com post from above is this little tidbit at the end about Antonio Bryant and Joey Galloway:

Bryant, who had six catches for 115 yards and a touchdown against Seattle, has emerged as the leading playmaker in the Bucs’ passing attack this season. Though he opened the season as the Bucs’ starting flanker, he has been playing split end in Galloway’s absence. That has gone so well that the Bucs don’t want to shift Bryant back to flanker even when Galloway returns.

“We won’t move him,” said [Jon] Gruden. “We’re not going to move him at this point in time. Now Joey, if he does come back, we’re going to be creative in terms of how we get him going again. We obviously need him in the lineup.”

Bryant has shown that he is still capable of getting separation and making the big play. And Galloway can’t get back on the field to fight for his job. It’s sounding like Gruden is happy with Bryant at split end and may pull the plug on Galloway and see what happens next season. This Times bit suggests that he may be thinking just that:

When asked if there was a possibility Galloway would not play again this season, Gruden said he needed to see Galloway go through a full week of practice, which has not happened.

With injuries at other positions and depth becoming important, it still wouldn’t surprise me if Galloway was placed on injured reserve sometime in the next couple weeks.
