Bucs Victorious Again

The Bucs remain undefeated in the pre-season, following a 27-10 victory over the Patriots on Sunday. Yes, it’s only the pre-season, but a win is a win.

Jeff Garcia was again held out of the action, making way for the other quarterbacks to show off their stuff. Brian Griese was the starter, and went 9/10 for 44 yards. Luke McCown was 7/10 for 79 yards and 1 touchdown. Chris Simms managed to complete two passes, totaling 24 yards.

Michael Bennett continued to receive a bulk of the carries, gaining 57 yards on 8 carries. He is becoming a serious contender at the running back position. Even with two players ahead of him on the depth chart, look for Bennett to get a lot of work this year.

Antonio Bryant also made a good case to become a starter, showing a lot of poise and patience in recording 2 catches for 37 yards.

The Bucs defense did their part en route to the win, lead by Sabby Piscitelli. Piscitelli returned a fumble 24 yards for a third quarter touchdown. He may not be a starter at the beginning of the season, but I don’t think it will be long before he is. The defense held the Patriots to only 174 total yards, and only 11 first downs. Again, pre-season numbers are irrelevant, but these stats are something the Bucs can be proud of.

The Bucs will play the Jacksonville Jaguars next week, and will end their pre-season against the Houston Texans.
