Today’s Players Don’t Know How Good They Have It

Denis Crawford, a contributing writer to the always excellent Bucpower.com, wrote a good piece on the 1987 Buccaneer training camp under Ray Perkins. You know how much players hate two-a-days? Perkins ran three-a-days.

Perkins' NFL version of "Survivor" started on July 20, 1987 at Pepin-Rood Stadium on the campus of the University of Tampa near downtown. Perkins scheduled practices from Monday through Saturday with full sessions scheduled from 8:30 am - 9:30 am, 11:45 am - 12:45 pm and 6 - 7:30 in the evening. Keep in mind this schedule was done during July and August when Tampa averages 90 - 100 degrees and 90% + humidity.

Crawford has to take special note of the weather because he's writing mostly for a mostly British audience at Bucpower.com, and they really only have "rain" and "less rain" as their weather options. Kind of like Seattle, but with tea instead of coffee.

Ray Perkins was a perv and kept trying to show the cheerleaders what they were missing.
