Chris Simms Says What You Knew He’d Say

Pewter Report talked with Chris Simms about his return and his relationship with Jon Gruden and everything you'd expect them to ask him about. And if you had "moving on" and "there's nothing I can do about it" and "the future will work itself out" in the Chris Simms cliche pool, congratulations, you have a knack for predicting the obvious.
"I made it known on how I've felt with the whole situation," Simms said. "At this point I'm just going to continue to work and get better and let all that stuff take care of itself. I have no control over the situation. I realize that. The Bucs will do what is best for them and I understand that. I totally understand the business side of the game. I'm just going to knock off some rust day by day and continue to get better."
He said the first conversation with Jon Gruden was awkward, but he's treating everything very business-like without sounding like a complete douche about it. Anymore, that is. Earlier this summer, he was a veritable fountain of douche. Did I just say that?
Keep an eye on how well Brian Griese does during camp. If he screws the pooch and totally bombs, there's a chance Simms sticks and Griese gets cut. I don't think Gruden will ever put Josh Johnson in a position where he has a chance to play this year. Not after Bruce Gradkowski and his 2006 season. So, in that case, it would be Jeff Garcia, Luke McCown, Simms and then Johnson as the inactive fourth. Wouldn't that be something?
