Interest In Favre…Rising…

Did you like the Simpsons reference there? It’s good to be back.
While the Bucs were listed as a potential suitor for Brett Favre, Bucs Quarterback Chris Simms has revealed that General Manager Bruce Allen has questioned him about Favre.
“He asked me questions about Favre. He asked if I felt Brett would be able to come back and be good here if he didn’t have a lot of reps in training camp. I said I thought he would but there would have to be some compromise with coach (Jon) Gruden. He’ll just want the play called and to drop back and throw it in there…But it’s something we’ve talked about,” Simms said.
With quarterback questions abound, the interest in Favre is turning many heads in the South Florida area. Allen himself denied comments. The interesting thing about the Bucs acquiring Favre is that he would have to adapt to a whole new offensive system, something that could take all of training camp. The Bucs are still cutting down the roster, with 4 more to get cut on Friday. Aside from that, they will only bring 5 quarterbacks to camp, more than likely including Chris Simms. If the Bucs will have to make room for Favre, which will likely mean the end of Simms’ tenure in Tampa.
While I am slightly intrigued by the prospect of Brett Favre coming to Tampa, I can’t say that it would be the smartest decision. Favre is a legend, and with any legend comes a media flurry. Normally I complain about the fact that the Bucs don’t receive enough national attention, but Favre coming would bring the media for all the wrong reasons. I want the team to be recognized. If Favre comes down South, it will be all about him. If you think about his years spent in Green Bay, you know that he was the center of attention. The best he could do for the Bucs is get their name out there, only to be forgotten when he retires for the final time.
