And Then There Were 89

It didn't take long for the Bucs to start releasing players to get down to the mandated maximum of 80 before training camp starts. Today, they released Marquis Gunn and Patrick Chukwurah.

I like Chukwurah a lot, but to be honest, when I was thinking about the competition at defensive end, I never really thought about him. He was injured for a good chunk of 2007 and was essentially relegated to special teams for the remainder of the year. The depth was pretty thick at defensive end and a lot of other guys need reps, so this was the smart thing to do. Hopefully he can land somewhere else and make an impact. Somewhere besides the NFC South, that is.

Most importantly, though, I think this makes B.J. Askew the undisputed Street Fighter champion at One Buc.

You know what would have been cool? A cage match between Patrick Chukwurah and Simeon Rice. And now it appears they'll both have some time on their hands to make it happen.
