Gradkowski Project Called “A Mistake”

After the Bucs released Bruce Gradkowski, Jon Gruden admitted that the Bruce Gradkowski project was a mistake.

When the Bucs drafted Gradkowksi as a 6th rounder in the 2006 Draft, Gruden took him under his wing, hoping to make him a “pet project.” What he saw was a raw talent, one that he wanted to mold into an all star. After 11 unsuccessful starts, the Bucs finally put Tim Rattay into the starter role, and the Bucs managed to finish the season with some dignity.

There was always a connection between Gruden and Gradkowski, but Bruce never became the quarterback that Gruden wanted. He truly was a project, one that earned an “F.” You have to give credit to the Bucs organization for trying, but when you want to turn a college kid into an all star, you should probably pick him higher than the sixth round.
