Gruden Visits Grambling

Jon Gruden and Doug Williams went to Shreveport over the weekend to take part in Williams's annual celebrity golf tournament. The tournament doesn't start until today, but Gruden wanted to get there a day early to tour the Grambling campus, something he intended to do last year but was never able to make it.

"For me, it's almost unexplainable," a beaming Williams said. "This is something Gruden really wanted to do. It says a lot that he would take time out. He could have come in and just played in the golf tournament, but he wanted to make sure he got a chance to come to Grambling. He thinks that much of this place."

Here's the whole gang who took the tour: Gruden, Williams, some white guy, Shack Harris, Jimmie Giles, and the only dude in Louisiana with long pants in June. Remember when Giles used to seem kind of thin for a tight end? That is no longer a problem.

There's something comforting in knowing that someone like Gruden also takes the goofy group shots we all take in front of tourist spots during vacations.

Gruden also went into the gift shop and dropped about $150 on Grambling swag. Tell me this, though. Is there really no other way to use a "G" as your athletic logo? That's the same damn G as the Green Bay Packers and the Georgia Bulldogs!

Changing the color does not a new logo make.

There are about a million different fonts and typefaces in the world. One of them has to have an acceptable alternative to this G.

Anyway, word got out that Gruden was on the Grambling campus and people started coming by for autographs and pictures, which he happily provided. But it sounds like this is really something he wanted to do and not for the photo ops or publicity. He just really loves football.
