NFL Network game likely to air locally

Reader Derek Davis brought up an interesting question in an email this morning. He asked whether the Bucs' preseason game against the Patriots would be simulcasted on any of the local televisions stations.
The answer, according to network spokesman Dennis Johnson, is yes.
Though most local cable subscribers (myself included) don't get the network, the league will accept bids from local stations that wish to broadcast the game. The station chosen will be able to air the game live. And you shouldn't worry about the likelihood of stations making bids. It's likely far more profitable to air a Bucs game than a sappy movie of the week.
This same policy applies to regular-season games on NFL Network to ensure that many local fans don't miss the game. The Bucs won't have any such games this year. The Patriots-Bucs game is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 17 at Raymond James Stadium. Kickoff is at 8 p.m.
