No London Game for Bucs; Former WR Gessner Arrested

Published: January 28th, 2008
By Buccaneers Gab

You can forget about the Buccaneers playing a regular season game in England next season.  The NFL has reportedly decided to match the Saints against the Chargers next October from Wembley Stadium in London.  The Bucs were being considered for the trip.

In other team news, former Bucs receiver Chas Gessner was arrested early Sunday morning in Tampa and charged with DUI.  According to police documents, Gessner’s blood-alcohol level was .22, which is well over the legal limit of .08.  Police say Gessner was driving the wrong way near Tampa Street and Kennedy Boulevard.  Gessner was cut during training camp last summer and was re-signed to the active roster in October before being let go again in November.

Super Sunday Revisited

It’s hard to believe its been 5 years since the Bucs were in the Super Bowl. But I remember it like it was yesterday.

The Bucs were huge underdogs. Relying almost solely on defense, the argument about “Who wins games, defense or offense?” was thrown around constantly. The Bucs had the defense. The Raiders had the offense, led by NFL MVP, Rich Gannon. The Raiders were almost instantly crowned champions. Even People magazine did a feature about their fans! That didn’t stop the Bucs fans from believing. I didn’t care that everyone was rooting for the Raiders. I always liked the underdog role, and my team was playing it on the biggest stage of all.

It’s official. The game in London will be played between the New Orleans Saints and San Diego Chargers. No Buccaneers included. It’s kind of disappointing, as the Bucs could use some national exposure. Oh well. Better luck next year.

Chas Gessner was arrested Saturday night (S-A T-U-R D-A-Y!) for DUI with a blood alcohol content between .222 and .227. You may be wondering why I am bringing this up since Chas is no longer on the team. The official roster even says so. But apparently no one told him he was cut because he stated for the record that he was employed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a player. Gessner spent about seven and a half hours in jail, during which time he complained about the slow service and threatened to have the warden's job if he didn't get some goddamn 300 thread count sheets for his cot.

Bucs Stay In The Right Lane For 2008

A list of things the Buccaneers will not have to hear about during the 2008 season: Albert Hall, meat and two veg, Big Ben, Dave Clark Five, Spam and eggs. Tampa Bay will not be playing in England next season, leaving that honour (check out the "u", baby!) to the New Orleans Saints and the San Diego Chargers. This is great news for the Buccaneers who will not have to field endless questions about why they are allowed to use their hands in football.
