Closing in on the end of Awards season, it is now time to present the award for the Offensive Player of the Year. This award goes to the Buccaneer who was the most outstanding on offense, and the one who made it all happen.

And the Atop the Crow’s Nest Award for Offensive Player of the Year goes too:

Jeff Garcia!

The acquisition of our dreams, Jeff Garcia came over from Philadelphia with one thing to prove: He could still play. Completing one of the greatest seasons by a Buccaneer quarterback, Garcia finished the year with 2,440 yards, 13 touchdown passes, and only 4 interceptions. He finished the season with a passer rating of 94.6, the 7th best in the league. He played only 13 games due to injury, so his numbers took a drop. It doesn’t matter though. In the final three games, he probably wouldn’t have thrown a single interception. After all, his interception percentage was the lowest by a Bucs starting quarterback in franchise history. In the games he played, he led the Bucs to an 8-5 record. In the games he didn’t play, it was noticeable. The Bucs offense took a serious nose dive when Garcia didn’t play, averaging little offense, and very few points. With a franchise that has longed since looked for a definitive quarterback, it seems they have found their man. Congratulations, Mr. Garcia!
