Alstott Seems Ready to Call it a Career

The career of one of the greatest Tampa Bay Buccaneers of all-time appears finally over.  After 12 seasons of being one of the biggest and best battering rams in the league, fullback Mike Alstott is ready to say good-bye.  The back has strongly stated that he would officially retire before this season, and it’s a move that really comes as no surprise.

Alstott didn’t play at all this last season, as he hurt his neck for a second time in traning camp in August and was placed on IR.  ”I’ve had some injuries; I have a young family; I can’t be selfish in that regard. I can’t go have more surgeries; it wouldn’t be worth it,” Alstott said on WDAE 620-AM in Tampa.  “I was disappointed I couldn’t be on the field this year, but I’m having fun now. Right now my concentration is on [my foundation].”                   

The back will for sure be honored in 2008 by the team, and will retire as the Bucs’ all-time leader in touchdowns (71) and rushing touchdowns (56) and as its second-best ground gainer (5,088 yards).
