Looks like McCown’s the guy

It appears quarterback Luke McCown is being prepped to start in New Orleans in the event Jeff Garcia is sidelined because of his lower back bruise.

McCown is expected to take the reps during workouts this week, meaning coach Jon Gruden likely has decided to make a change at the No. 2 quarterback position. Gruden said earlier in the week that his No. 2 quarterback would get all the preparation for Sunday's game rather than splitting snaps between McCown and Bruce Gradkowski.

A Few Quick Hits Until We Learn More About Garcia’s Back

Some reporter in Dallas has called Ronde Barber the "anti-Deion", which he means as a compliment because Ronde is willing to tackle whereas Deion would actively avoid it. It's an ok read if you're bored at work.

Gradkowski Or McCown As Garcia’s Backup?

Published: November 27th, 2007
By Buccaneers Gab

With starting quarterback Jeff Garcia hurting, the Buccaneers are trying to decide who will be the backup.  Bruce Gradkowski got into the game against the Redskins and was ineffective to say the least.  Gradkowski was just 9-of-19 for 106 yards.  Head coach Jon Gruden was non-committal on naming Gradkowski as the backup for Sunday’s game at New Orleans.  There’s a chance Luke McCown may leapfrog Gradkowski for the number-two spot.  And there’s a decent chance Garcia may not be able to go Sunday, which means the Bucs have a decision to make as to who will get the majority of the practice reps this week.

Even The Colts Didn’t Want Simeon

The Colts released Simeon Rice after only two games. No word yet on if Rice was muttering to himself about Tony Dungy or Bill Polian on his way out, but you know in his first interview after this, he will probably make them out to be complete assholes while he somehow becomes the victim.

Jeff Garcia is feeling good enough to talk on the phone, but he's not quite up to the point of doing anything involving a football.

"I'm feeling a little better today; I'm taking some better steps today than yesterday, [but] I'm not at a point now where I can even throw the ball yet," Garcia said during his weekly radio call-in segment on WDAE, 620 AM.

Bucs QB Jeff Garcia Hurting

Published: November 27th, 2007
By Buccaneers Gab

The 7-and-4 Buccaneers are concerned with the back injury suffered by quarterback Jeff Garcia.  Garcia went down on the game’s first play during the 19-13 home win over the Washington Redskins at Raymond James Stadium two days ago.  During his Monday press conference, head coach Jon Gruden says Garcia has a deep bruise in his lower back and his status is day-to-day.  Garcia was said to be in a lot of pain and discomfort yesterday.  His status for Sunday’s game at New Orleans appears to be questionable right now.

Why Does Something Like This Have to Happen? R.I.P. #21

It’s an inconceivable question to ask. Sean Taylor was 24 years old, and had a 1 year old child. He was on top of the world, playing a game he loved, and doing very well at it. I was shocked by the news that he was shot, but prayed that he could make it through. My heart about dropped when I read the news just a few minutes ago.

Garcia can’t commit to playing on Sunday

Published: November 27th, 2007
By Bucs Beat | tampabay.com - St. Petersburg Times and tbt*

Jeff Garcia made his weekly radio appearance on 620-AM this morning and made it clear his bruised back is severe enough to sideline him against the Saints.

Asked if he thought he could play at New Orleans on Sunday, Garcia said, "I can't even really say that right now."

He added that he still can't throw a football because of the discomfort and lack of mobility. Garcia also doesn't have any indication on when he might return to practice this week, though it's possible he could play without any practice time.

Which was the real Sean Taylor?

Published: November 27th, 2007
By Bucs Beat | tampabay.com - St. Petersburg Times and tbt*

Friends, colleagues and the media today are attempting to get a clearer picture of the real Sean Taylor, the Washington Redskins player who died earlier from a gunshot wound in Miami.

The former Miami Hurricane was known on the field for his trash-talking and vicious hits. (He was once ejected and fined for spitting on Buccaneer running back Michael Pittman in 2006.) Off the field, former teammates said he was more caring but private.
