The Entry Where I Start Out With A Point But Then Lose It And Forget What I’m Talking About

Because Vinny Testaverde had a problem with his Achille's, David Carr had to start in place of the 43-year old quarterback, which probably wasn't the phrase Carr wanted associated with his name at this stage of his career. But then Tony Brown crushed Carr and he had to leave the game with a concussion. Matt Moore came in for Carr and, in only three minutes, went 2 for 5 and an interception.

So, the Panthers are left with a gimpy, color-blind senior citizen, a dizzy sack magnet, and an undrafted rookie with a QB rating less than Testaverde's age. So maybe John Fox will want to scour free agency for someone else to ruin?

"I wouldn't say that's not a possibility," Fox said.

"Or, more simply," he added, "I would say that is a possibility. But since coaches have to talk in this weird code that is both long-winded and meaningless all at the same time, I have to use a stupid double-negative to get my non-point across. Just once I'd like to shoot my mouth off like Parcells used to before he became all doughy and TV-friendly."

So, who are some of the elite stallions still available in free agency? I swear to God the best one available is Jeff George. Isn't that awesome? Could you imagine George and Testaverde on the same roster in 2007? The Panthers would have to stock their training room refrigerator with prune juice and balsam specifics and their weight room would have to include those little rubber 2-pound weights. They'd nod off in the middle of press conferences and then wake up startled and call out to reporters that have been dead for twenty years. Is that enough old people jokes?

But seriously, the only other guys out there are just younger and shittier. Aaron Brooks, Drew Henson, Rob Johnson... it gets worse from there. The Panthers play the Falcons on Sunday and on paper it looks like a rout, but the Falcons may have a chance to pull one out against the Panthers, which would be really demoralizing for them. Kris Jenkins may actually kill somebody during the post-game interviews if they lose. God I hope it's their kicker. That guy really pisses me off.

As long as we're talking about the division, the Buccaneers are currently in sole possession of first place in the NFC South with a half-game lead over Carolina and New Orleans, both at 4-4. But as the Bucs go into their bye this week, the Panthers and Saints will both be facing shitty, shitty teams and could possibly move into a three-way tie (heh... I said "three-way") for first place with the Bucs. Tampa Bay has the tie breaker in both cases with head-to-head wins over both of them, but things are starting to get a little tight. Which is why we are all Rams and Falcons fans this week. Just don't mention it in public. The look of pity in other people's eyes is unbearable.

If the Panthers did sign George, they would have three number one overall quarterbacks on their roster, and they'd all suck.
