Michael Bennett Was A Bargain

Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that the Buccaneers gave up a sixth round pick in 2008 and a conditional seventh round pick in 2009 for Michael Bennett. I'm not sure if "conditional" means that Bennett has to meet certain performance metrics in order for the Chiefs to get the 2009 pick at all or if a seventh rounder is the minimum value of the pick and it could go to a sixth, but either way it's a good deal. Bennett is a former Pro Bowler and has real speed in the open field. Chances are Earnest Graham will start against the Lions, but I would bet that Bennett gets some touches on less complicated plays to get his feet wet.

Fun fact: Bennett was selected in the first round by the Vikings in 2001. Patrick Chukwurah was also a 2001 draft pick by the Vikings. He was taken in the fifth round, 130 picks after Bennett. Knowledge is power!

Bennett was a first round pick in 2001. Now he's worth a sixth rounder and possibly a seventh.
