Wyms Signs With Seattle; Will Probably Help Them In First Game

Seahawks GM Tim Ruskell wasted little time signing Ellis Wyms so he could get him ready for their first game... against the Buccaneers. Ruskell has a history of signing former Bucs and Wyms is a good player, but I'm guessing it's not a total coincidence that Seattle signed him so quickly and that they host Tampa Bay in five days. Chartric Darby thinks he'll fit in well.

"Ellis is a good player and he's going to bring a lot to this defense and to this year," Darby said.

Yeah, especially recent knowledge of the Buccaneer playbook. It occurs to me that something like this is a reason the Bucs kept Chris Simms on the roster. Atlanta is still desperate for a third arm (if you count Chris Redman) and if Simms had been released, he surely would have been signed by the Falcons by now, bringing all five of those years of experience he had under Jon Gruden with him. They couldn't help it with Wyms, but they just couldn't let Simms go to the Falcons.

Wait, how did I wind up talking about a fourth string quarterback again?

No part of either player is touching the ground.
