You Know What This Team Could Really Use? Another Linebacker.

Does the Tampa Bay front office get a bonus or something for having double-digit linebackers on the team? I guess they need enough bodies to survive the last preseason game and they'll all get dumped anyway, but the Buccaneers are turning into a linebacker orphanage.

In the process of getting down to 75 players, the team released punter Sean Douglas and put tight end Matt Herian and guard Jeb Terry on IR. But that left them with an open roster spot which they quickly plugged with a linebacker the Bears waived, Leon Joe.

The most interesting part of this is Terry being put on IR. I had him making the final cut, but there's not a pure guard left on the roster to take his place. The only possibility is Enoka Lucas who is a center/guard and is in no way good enough to actually make the team. I guess three pure guards plus Anthony Davis who can swing between tackle and guard is enough. So where will the team add depth?

The long shot is that they keep seven wide receivers and have both Mark Jones and Paris Warren on the team. But that's a lot of receivers, even for a Jon Gruden-coached team. More likely, they'll use the extra spot to have the luxury of a dedicated long snapper and keep Andrew Economos, who I originally didn't have making the team. This team is never going to blow anyone away with points, so they'll want to minimize the risk to the kicking game by keeping a guy who can get the ball to the holder properly.
