Jeremiah Trotter To Visit The Bucs

So, the Bucs trade away a sixth round pick for a linebacker who is going to get cut, only to entertain the notion of signing Jeremiah Trotter who is available as a free agent. The team is also said to be interested in trading away all of their remaining 2008 draft picks for a really good waffle breakfast.

Trotter could make the team as the seventh linebacker and would push Ryan Nece as a backup to Barrett Ruud in the middle. Which is good because if you saw Nece in the preseason, you know he's struggling some with the transition to MLB. But Trotter has never played in the Tampa 2 and a large part of being successful in it is the ability for the MLB to cover deep. And Trotter can't cover. He's still a great force against the run, but will be a liability in the passing game if he doesn't get the proper help over the top. Add to that the fact that his knees are apparently being held together by strength of will, and I don't know if Trotter is any kind of upgrade over Nece in hat position. I'm not liking my choices here.

The question is if Trotter is better than Adam Hayward, who is currently the bubble linebacker (by my best guess.) If so and Trotter will sign for cheap, take him and see what he has left in the tank.

Jeff Garcia remembers Jeremiah Trotter.
