Preseason Game 1 Summary

Jeff Garcia went 1 for 4 in two three-and-outs. Then he left. Performing well in camp should not excuse anyone from having to produce on game day. Lack of preseason preparation led to a 4-12 season last year. Keep the damn starting quarterback on the field until he at least gets a couple first downs. Jeesh.
Luke McCown, on the other hand, went 7 for 7 and a touchdown. Does this mean McCown is a better quarterback than Garcia? No. But it doesn't not mean it, either.
Yes, I saw the two sacks that Jeremy Trueblood allowed. They weren't as egregious as they looked. McCown held the ball a little long on the first one and the second one looked more like Davin Joseph missed his assignment than Trueblood.
Kenneth Darby held onto the ball and looked very good. Lionel Gates did not. Darby is making a good case for himself to be the fifth running back on the roster.
Joey Galloway dropped the only pass to come his way. One too many afternoons off? Also, David Boston and Maurice Stovall each had only one catch. It's going to be tough to make an impression when you're only thrown to once.
Where the hell did Paris Warren come from? I don't think he's taking anyone's job away at this stage, but he may make Jon Gruden reconsider how many wide receivers he keeps. He was catching absolutely everything.
Bruce Gradkowski's deep ball has not improved in the least. He may want to try some of those throws underhand. They can't possibly get any worse.
That's not a dare, Bruce.
Chris Simms and Michael Clayton were both held out of the game. I remember when I thought "Simms to Clayton" would be a recurring theme.
One sack, and it was provided by Ellis Wyms. You know Gruden can't be happy about the lack of pressure. It looked like an improvement from last year, but it isn't going to be enough.
Gaines Adams looked all right. He sure is eager to get to that quarterback, though. Run plays didn't exist to him and he took such a quick step and wide angle to rush the passer that at times he took himself right out of the play. That batted ball was pretty sweet, too.
Did you see Sammy Morris run right over Derrick Brooks for a touchdown? It wasn't just me, right? Ok.
And where was Cato June? No tackles, no passes defensed. I expected to at least a little action from such a high profile guy.
Jamie Winborn, on the other hand, was everywhere. Will someone please give this man some more snaps?
No one should discount the fact that Matt Bryant made the game winning field goal with no time left on the clock.
