Simeon Rice Still Unemployed

It appears that despite their lack of depth at defensive end, the Titans are not going to offer Simeon Rice a contract.

The Titans have not entered contract talks with the agent for veteran defensive end Simeon Rice since his visit last week, and indications are they don't intend to sign him. Rice, released recently by the Buccaneers, also has visited the Giants. The Titans are likely to continue to look for help at defensive end as other teams make their cuts.

The Giants have also not offered rice a contract. Rice's agent said several teams have showed interest in him, "interest" in this case meaning they called to ask his price and then made that short, dismissive blowing sound you make when you hear something completely ridiculous. Like "Pfff", but breathy. Then the GMs on the other line hung up the phone and did mocking, exagurated impressions of Rice. "I'm Simeon Rice and I need seven and a half million dollars to show up. What is this 'running play' you keep talking about?" Then they just laughed and laughed. Hoo boy.

You want to hear something serious, though? Bruce Allen supposedly has an offer on the table for Rice to come back and play for the Bucs. I don't know what the number is, but if all this other interest really does turn out to be bullshit, he may decide playing for that offer is better than sitting out a season and come back to Tampa. I can't find a link to a story that confirms this, but Pat Kirwan said it on Sirius. If he does come back under those conditions, it may cement Allen's place as one of the most powerful GMs in the league. "You don't want to play by his rules? Fine... bye. Oh, you want to come back now? Here's the offer, take it or leave it. And wax my car." Someone needs to give him a cool nickname. Jon Gruden is "Chucky"; what's another crappy 80s horror movie that be exploited for its main character's name? "Pumpkinhead"? Is that flattering?

Ok, so maybe it's not the best choice.
