The Southern Christian Leadership Conference was founded in 1957 as part of an organized response to the Rosa Parks bus incident and the subsequent bus boycott. It's founding members were Martin Luther King, Jr., whom you have probably heard about, and Ralph David Abernathy, whom you have probably only heard of if you live in Atlanta. King was president of the organization until his assassination in 1968. It's members have included some of the most influential leaders in the southern civil rights movement and they have continued their work to this day with many programs dedicated to youth and minority interests. This year they celebrate their 50th anniversary with a week-long convention in Atlanta where they will celebrate their storied and honorable history and make plans for the future with speakers such as Bill & Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama.

Oh, and they're going to honor Michael Vick. For being an outstanding human being.

SCLC President Charles Steele announced Thursday during a news conference that the group will find a way to honor Vick during its national convention that began Friday. "We will recognize Vick for being an outstanding human being," said Steele.

And here I always thought "outstanding" was a positive thing. Turns out it means "pothead dogkiller with herpes". My mistake.

Seriously, If I were Steele, I'd be wearing a necklace made of garlic and keeping the Vatican's best exorcisor on retainer for a while, because there's no way King's and Abernathy's ghosts let this one fly without seriously haunting his ass. He'll be able to recognize them because they'll be the ones walking dozens of pitbull ghosts.

Now picture the puppy as a rotting corpse being dug up by federal investigators. Outstanding!
