Jeff Davis To Be Inducted To College Football HOF

Published: August 31st, 2007
By Bucstats.com weblog

Jeff Davis was one of the best players on some of the worst teams in history. He was the Buccaneers middle linebacker during the mid-80s and started every game between 1984 and 1986. There were very few bright spots during that time, especially 1986. Many of today's Division 1-A teams would walk all over those 1986 Buccaneers, and I say that without a trace of exaggeration. Davis performed well, though, and finished his career ranking third in Bucs history for tackles. He will be inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame on December 4. Congratulations to Jeff.

Preseason Game 4 Assumptions Based On What I Read

Published: August 31st, 2007
By Bucstats.com weblog

I haven't actually seen the preseason game against the Texans yet, so I'm pretty much in the dark about the performance of a bunch of backups and guys who won't make the team. But I'll share with you what I read, which in a game like this is pretty much just as good.

Paris Warren severely dislocated his ankle and will be put on injured reserve for the year. This quickly ends the debate on how many receivers to keep on the roster. It will be six.

Post-game news

Here's the latest from postgame interviews:

Jon Gruden says Paris Warren is done for the year. Gruden seemed to think Warren sustained a badly dislocated ankle, but most seemed to think it was a broken leg. Either way, it was a tough break for a kid who made great strides in the game before his injury.

Live from Texans-Bucs

Published: August 30th, 2007
By Bucs Beat | tampabay.com - St. Petersburg Times and tbt*

We have our first news of the night. General manager Bruce Allen told Channel 8 in an interview before the game that Chris Simms will not play because of a hip injury. Now, it appears he is a candidate to go on the injured reserve list because of it.

Simmssmile We understand it occurred yesterday in practice. That workout, however, was a walkthrough. Tough to see how one could be injured playing touch football. We didn't have access to practice yesterday, so there's no way to know what's what beyond what we've been told.

Preseason Gameday Thread: Bucs vs Texans

Published: August 30th, 2007
By Buc 'Em

Believe it or not Bucs Fans, we DO have a Preseason Game upon us tonight. I didnt feel the need to do this for our Previous Preseason Opponents, as we're all familiar with the Pats Personnel and being in Florida we're force-fed Dolphins and Jaguars coverage, sooooo in the event that you probably know as little about the Houston Texans as I do, I'd like to take this moment and present you with a little Texan knowledge from the fellas at Battle Red Blog, our Houston Texans Bloggers:

The Gays Love Them Some Joey

Outsports.com, a web site devoted to gays in sports that I just happened to stumble across while surfing for photos of naked cheerleaders (female cheerleaders!), did a small article on how gays like Joey Harrington in Atlanta. Turns out they think he's just swell. Heh... I said "swell".

Are Bucs better without Alstott?

Published: August 30th, 2007
By Bucs Beat | tampabay.com - St. Petersburg Times and tbt*

Alstott Are the Bucs better at fullback without Mike Alstott? John Romano poses the question in a column in today's Times. While neither can replace Alstott's toughness and determination, Michael Pittman has a blend of speed, power and hands that could make him an unusual commodity at fullback, and B.J. Askew could be the answer in short-yardage situations if Pittman struggles as a human battering ram, Romano writes. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments area below.

Chris Simms Is About To Get Fired

Published: August 30th, 2007
By Bucstats.com weblog

If you had any doubts before today that Chris Simms is going to get cut this week, here's a quote from Jon Gruden that should quickly expunge those.

He's the kind of kid I did everything to help him, and certainly he's capable of being a good quarterback in pro football. It'll be a tough call and a decision that, unfortunately, will have to be made.
