Weekend Training Camp Summary

Luke McCown took a lot of snaps and looked pretty good. Chris Simms's reps were reduced in the morning and Bruce Gradkowski continued to look kind of ordinary. I keep forgetting about McCown, but this may be a three horse race. Paul Hackett likes McCown and wants to give him every opportunity.

Friday's starting lineup was changed around for Saturday. Arron Sears started at left guard and Matt Lehr started at center.

Jon Gruden singled out David Boston and Maurice Stovall for the plays they're making during camp. Stovall especially.

Saturday afternoon practice was moved inside due to rain.

Shelton Quarles was at training camp in street clothes today (Sunday). No one said if he was just visiting his friends or if there was something more going on.

Derrick Brooks's hamstring kept him from practicing, but he did suit up.

Joey Galloway has been excused today so he can watch his Arena League team play in the Arena Bowl. Galloway's Destroyers lost 55-33.

Greg Spires is playing like a man fighting for his job, which he is. He looks sharp.

Michael Clayton threw an option pass on a reverse to Ike Hilliard, who dropped it.

Lots of players got Sunday afternoon off. Maybe about a dozen, including Jeff Garcia, which was good news for the other quarterbacks. Again, McCown took full advantage. Lots of shotgun in the afternoon.

Bonus video from Friday: This is from Buccaneers.com, which is doing the best job they've ever done in keeping up with what happens in camp. Not much that's critical or negative, obviously, but a lot of good coverage. Here's a summary video from Friday's practice. Listen to the segment around the middle of the video where Gruden is talking about the center positio and watch Dan Buenning get absolutely manhandled after the snap. Maybe this is why he was practicing with the third string later.

Stop! In the name of love!
