Buccaneers’ Fans Eagerly Await the Next Chapter of the Michael Vick Saga

Hiya Bucs’ Fans!  Another fine day here in the Tampa Bay area, and oh look at the news!  Seems that a thorn in Monty Kiffen’s side, one Michael Vick, may not be a factor this season after all!

Of course, anyone who pays attention to Pro-football knows what’s happening with the Falcons and Michael Vick.  Heck, even non-fans know about Vick these days.  But it was a nice lead-in, wasn’t it?  ::AHEM::

Some news you may not be aware of:

Dante Culpepper apparently met with Gruden and Williams today in Tampa, where he worked out.  No doubt he was on his way to Atlanta and didn’t want to pass up an opportunity.  Wouldn’t it be fun to sign Culpepper just to make Arthur Blank and Rich McKay sweat?

While the Bucs are fairly top heavy in the QB department on paper, it would seem that a reliable backup may not be such a stretch after all.  Simms is still having throwing problems, Gradkowski needs work, and Plummer is becoming more obvious that he will not report to training camp.  If Garcia goes down during the season, who do we send in?  Maybe signing Culpepper isn’t such a bad idea after all.

You can read more about it here: TBO.com

Michael Vick faces some pretty bad news following his indictment on Federal charges – History isn’t very kind to athletes who run afoul of the law, let alone The US Government.  In an 18 page indictment (you can view the entire document here: Indictment), Michael Vick, a.k.a., Ookie, is named some 51 times!

And to add insult to injury, when Michael Vick appears in federal court next week on dogfighting charges, he’ll go before a judge not impressed by Vick’s celebrity and in a court known nationwide for its speedy handling of cases.  Read all about it here:  No-Nonsense Judge
Some tidbits from the Falcon Faithful:

From everything I have been reading, Vick’s trial won’t START for another 4 to 6 months.  Football season will be nearly over by then, and now I hear that Vick probably will stay in Atlanta and play this year.  I cant believe Arthur Blank doesnt have enough balls to cut someone who has disgraced the football sport and Falcons organization.  I am now re-thinking my positive thinking of Blank….the Smith family probably wouldn’t have tolerated this.

And this:

I think he needs to be gone but we cannot simply cut him. We need to see if we can get some cap help/relief from the NFL before we just cut him and eat that cap. I think he has played his last down in the NFL. He will never play again. He will also go to prison if all of this comes out as true. So, what is everyone else’s opinion on Vick and what to do about him and the situation? As of this moment, the Falcons have remained silent. I hope the the commissioner will WAKE UP and suspend him RIGHT NOW.

And this:

The NFL has to come up with a way that a team is not put in cap hell when a top player goes to xxxx. With the way it is now not only does the player get punished the team and all of it’s fans do to. I wonder if they had a clause in the guaranteed money Vick received . Like if you commit a felony all guarantees are off.

Personally I thought  this was great news, but a year too late, we had a great defense last year and if we had a QB that could have kept drives going just a little longer the defense wouldn’t have worn down.

Of course, some Bucs’ Fans weigh in too:

Personally, I don’t think Vick will ever see the inside of a cell as a result of this.

I mean … OMG!   ::gag::  He means SO much to the NFL!!!   ::gag::   Football as we know it will cease to exist if The Great Michael Vick is jailed!    ::gag::   I guess The Commish can talk the talk, but can’t walk the walk.  :\

As I see it, even if he didn’t have a clue as to what his “relatives” were doing there, it’s his property. Isn’t he responsible for what happens on his property?  Wouldn’t any reasonable property owner at the very least, check up on his “relatives” to see what they’re doing there?  If for nothing else, to make sure his assets were protected?

And:

Vick is facing serious charges but my bet is he gets off
with an acquittal or pleads out to some bogus counts that
don’t mount to a hill of beans.
A nice little rally or candle light vigil  by Rev. Jessie Jackson
or Rev. Al Sharpton and the cowardly white folks will be
advocating for the legalization of dog fighting before it’s
all over with.
There’s one thing that always trumps the rule of law, and
that’s political correctness.

Oh, by the way … Don’t look for those new “Air Zoom Vick V” Nikes this summer.  They (Nike) suspended the release of that product pending …
