Report From Tuesday’s Minicamp

The Bucs didn't seem to favor any one lineup in their 3-4 practices, but they seem to like Barrett Ruud on the inside and Cato June on the outside. Jamie Winborn lined up as both ILB and OLB.

Will Allen is picking up where he left off last season. That is to say, he's not good. Raheem Morris is clearly motivating him to do better, but he may not have the physical tools to do it. Tanard Jackson is his competition.

Brian Kelly should be glad he didn't hold out. Phillip Buchanon looked awesome during his reps and may still push Kelly for some time if that toe doesn't start making some progress.

Simeon Rice didn't practice, but did participate in the stretching beforehand and then spent a bunch of time running between dummies and sprinting. This article has a more in-depth look at Rice's work on Tuesday.

Chris Simms is still slow and inaccurate. Bruce Gradkowski was noticeably better than Simms and getting more reps.

Maurice Stovall has a clear shot at beating Michael Clayton out of a starting spot. David Boston also continues to look good and take reps in all three receiver positions. How about a 3-wide set with Joey Galloway, Boston and Stovall?

Cadillac Williams is getting a lot of attention in the passing game. He is catching the ball better than he did last year.

Mike Alstott did some long snapping. Maybe that's how the team will keep him around if B.J. Askew clearly beats him out of the starting fullback spot (which he will because Askew is a much better blocker than Alstott at this point.) It's how Dave Moore stuck around for two more years. It allowed Moore to retire on his own terms rather than being put out to pasture. Despite all my "retire already" talk geared at him, I like Alstott and enjoy seeing him on the team. Just not at the expense of a better player sitting on the bench. If he can make a living for himself as a long snapper and protector on punts, I applaud it.

I just want a hug!
