Lance Briggs Mentions Bucs As Trade Partner

Mr. Briggs, please keep my favorite team's name out of your mouth. It's not nice.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports Lance Briggs will not play until the tenth week of the season if he's still property of the Bears at that point. Schefter says Briggs hopes the Redskins and Bucs will step up efforts to acquire him via trade closer to training camp. If not, he'll hold out. The Bears and Briggs remain at opposite ends of the spectrum in contract talks.

Now, I didn't think the Bucs would take a linebacker in the first day of the draft because they were already pretty well-stocked. But they did, plus they took another one on Sunday. So, unless Monte Kiffin is switching to a 3-4 alignment on a permanent basis, there's no way the team makes a deal for Briggs. Why Tampa Bay would even come up in the conversation is a mystery.
