A.J. Smith pulled running back Michael Turner off the trading block on Monday and said very firmly that Turner will not be dealt this season. There was a high demand for Turner and this move essentially ends Turner's hope for the $10M+ signing bonus he probably would have gotten from the team that acquired him.

Turner is, therefore, playing for his restricted free agent tender of $2.35M this year, which will undoubtedly be his last in San Diego. How did Turner respond to the reality that he will have to wait a year for the extra $8M that he could be enjoying right now?

"Who can complain about making seven figures?"

Who, indeed. Here are some more excerpts.

"Of course, every guy in this league looks forward to the day when they're the man and they're the one the team is depending on every week. Right now, I've just got to wait one more season."

"It was a win-win for me. I don't have a problem being in San Diego."

"They know they're not going to match anybody's offer. It ain't all about money. But there are going to be more opportunities out there for me."

You know how analysts talk about intangibles? There's something about a guy that can't be measured but he makes the whole team better just by being there. Turner's attitude is one of those intangibles. I want Michael Turner on my team.

You know, $2.35M really isn't so bad for doing this.
