The Cincinnati Bengals solidified their run defense with the addition of veteran defensive tackle Michael Myers.

Myers only has ordinary size, speed, and quickness, but was the most reliable member of the Broncos’ front four the past few seasons.  Myers plays very hard and has a tremendous feel for utilizing leverage and excellent gap control along the interior front.

The addition of Myers solidifies some short-term questions at defensive tackle for the Bengals.  Myers joins John Thornton, Sam Adams, and Domata Peko in what should be a solid interior rotation.  The Bengals expect a strong season from Adams against the run following knee surgery in January.  Peko is emerging a strong run defender for the long-term.  Thornton complements this group with good quickness and the ability to penetrate.  And with Myers onboard, Thornton should get more rest so he doesn’t wear down against the run.

Myers not only brings the blue-collar mentality that Marvin Lewis builds around, but should bring a solid leadership presence to a team that needs more veterans to push itself into a serious Super Bowl Contender.
