Holiday Road (oh-oh-oh)

An interesting bit from NFL.com says that Bruce Allen, Jon Gruden, Chris Simms, Michael Clayton and David Boston are taking a road trip to work out Calvin Johnson, Brady Quinn and JaMarcus Russell at their respective (former) universities.

The Calvin Johnson workout is understandable. The quarterbacks are most likely for the sake of completeness of research and smokescreen. Maybe Quinn has a slight chance of being drafted by the Bucs, but I'll go out on a limb here and say there is no possible way they would draft JaMarcus Russell even if he was available at #4. He is pretty much the opposite of what Jon Gruden wants in a quarterback.

And though some have speculated that it is curious that Chris Simms is going along for the ride instead of Jeff Garcia, it is essentially meaningless. It is no secret that Simms is currently the starting quarterback (see previous story) and seeing and how Garcia is getting married in a week (April 21), he probably has more important matters to attend to than flying all over the eastern United States in an attempt to trick the Raiders and Lions.

Wait, did I just use "Jon Gruden" and "road trip" in the same sentence? Ohhhhh snap!
